Registration for a studio visit in Riet Werner Ignaz Jans †

Dear friends, ladies and gentlemen, art lovers, and prospective buyers, we look forward to your visit.
The arrival itself is an experience: the old farmhouse seems to be guarded by numerous life-size sculptures.

When you enter the barn, the wonder begins in earnest. And from room to room and up to the floor, the abundance grows; everywhere they stand, sit, and lie, seeming to converse, engaged in their activities, or hiding – the memories that Werner Ignaz Jans captured in wood.

By appointment only, using the contact form.

Holidi

The sculpture was commissioned by Werner Ignaz Jans in 1985 for the planned Lignum exhibition of the Swiss Association of the Wood Industry. Since the 1970s, the association had participated in exhibitions, including the Basel Trade Fair (MUBA) and the Swissbau. The idea of creating a wooden giant as an eye-catcher came from graphic designer Göpf Horak. In consultation with the clients, the figure was ultimately named "Holidi." The name is an acronym and stands for "Homo Lignum Diligens" - "The person who loves wood." Werner Ignaz Jans himself was not entirely comfortable with this designation. He preferred to call his figure "Penalty Kick," as his children also did.
